WordPress Engineer


Part-time (22.5 hours) – Amsterdam/Cambridge


The job is a part-time role consisting of 22.5 hours per week spread over 5 days. 


WordPress Engineer – The job profile


Your tasks will comprise of:


  • Working on tickets issued by end-users/website owners..
  • Developing custom plug-ins to extend WordPress functionality
  • Developing and extending WordPress themes.
  • Work with the DS Operations Team to make sure all security and functional issues are catered for.
  • WordPress version and plugin management, testing and troubleshooting WordPress themes.
  • Building/rebuilding new/existing websites in our cloud-hosted WordPress environment.
  • Designing and developing features for existing sites.
  • Review existing site configurations.
  • Creating documentation on staff intranet.
  • Providing training to site editors.
  • Optimising SEO and performance for sites.
  • Organisational – setting up environments, workflow and security settings for site owners.
  • Security – loading and updating security certificates.


Job requirements:


  • Full stack developer – proficiency in WordPress, PHP 8, Javascript, HTML5, CSS frontend, developing custom plugins, API integrations, and extending Elementor.


  • An understanding of the Research and education sector would be an advantage.


The following experience is required:


  • 5 + years professional experience in the following technologies: PHP 8, MySql, Wordpress, Javascript, HTML5, CSS;
  • Demonstrable experience in managing a WordPress estate, including the provision of a support service;
  • Qualification or Certification in WordPress Development and site management;
  • Ability to work with other members of the organisation.


The following education is required:


  • Preferably degree-level qualification.
