Overview
We are seeking a Senior WordPress Developer with strong backend and frontend development skills to join our digital team. This role is central to maintaining, improving, and potentially reimagining our current web infrastructure. We’re looking for someone who can not only execute but also consult with us on the best path forward — whether that’s migrating to a new CMS, rebuilding from scratch in WordPress, or optimizing our existing instance.
A strong understanding of performance, scalability, and user experience is essential, especially as we aim to make our cornerstone pages fast, accessible, and high-converting.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday; Flexible during business hours, Glendale CA time. 20 hours per week.
Tasks and Responsibilities
A typical day or week in this role includes:
Responding to requests via Trello or Slack from internal stakeholders
Pushing WordPress updates, plugin reviews, and site health checks
Deploying new landing pages based on Figma or design files
Debugging custom plugin issues or legacy code
Writing optimized SQL queries to extract or update data
Conducting site audits and suggesting performance or UX improvements
Advising on CMS strategy and technical direction for the site
Collaborating in a weekly dev stand-up call for sprint planning and priorities
Required Experience and Knowledge
Core Skills (must have):
- 5+ years of professional experience with WordPress and PHP development
- Advanced MySQL knowledge – custom queries, data optimization, indexing
- Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery
- Experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins
- Deep understanding of the WordPress Codex and REST API
- Comfortable using Git, GitHub, and version control workflows
- Familiar with staging environments, backups, and rollback strategies
- Able to troubleshoot and debug across browsers and devices
Tools & Platforms (must be proficient):
- WordPress (Classic Editor + Gutenberg)
- cPanel, phpMyAdmin
- Git/GitHub
- FTP/SFTP clients (e.g., FileZilla)
- Browser Dev Tools
- Page builders (e.g., Elementor, WPBakery) – ability to edit if needed, not primary builder
- Google Lighthouse/PageSpeed Insights
Highly Regarded Experience and Knowledge
Preferred but not essential:
- Experience with headless CMS frameworks (e.g., Sanity, Strapi, Contentful)
- WooCommerce dynamic product configuration and SKU logic
- Experience configuring back-end product logic to produce standardized SKUs for MRP alignment
- UI/UX design acumen — ability to flag design decisions that conflict with best practices
- Experience with HubSpot CRM tasks and Airtable syncing
- PCI compliance implementation in e-commerce workflows
- Accessibility and WCAG compliance experience
