Job Classification: Hourly, Part-Time (variable hours, less than 20 hours per week), hybrid/remote


Reports to: Senior Technical Project Manager


 


Summary:


The Senior WordPress Developer at PRR will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of WordPress sites for PRR clients. This role requires a strong understanding of WordPress, including theme development, plugin customization, as well as front-end and back-end technologies to deliver high-quality websites that meet government standards for accessibility and performance.


This is a part-time W-2 employee position with variable and flexible hours.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch or modify existing ones to meet project requirements.

  • Collaborate with the design and development teams to translate design mockups into fully functional WordPress websites.

  • Perform website updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks as needed.

  • Optimize website performance and ensure cross-browser compatibility.

  • Stay up to date with the latest WordPress trends, tools, and best practices.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members and clients as needed.

  • Develop or oversee integration of manual and automated translation systems.

  • Add regular content updates to both pages and posts.

  • Maintain backups and a routine maintenance plan.

  • Implement best practices for Google indexability and crawlability.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical SEO issues affecting website performance in search engine results.

  • Contribute to project scopes and budget estimates for business development purposes, including flagging issues of scope-creep to the Senior Technical Project Manager.


Utilization/Billability Goal


In this role, your time will largely be spent working on projects and billing your time to clients. Approximately 90% of your time in this role should be billed to projects. Any non-billable time would be billed to the company to complete administrative or other non-billable tasks. Our staff track and report their time spent on projects and company activities each week.


Experience/Education



  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working as a WordPress developer.

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, communications, or design, or a certificate in web development, or equivalent work experience.


Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.

  • Strong understanding of WordPress core functionalities, APIs, and database structure.

  • Experience with responsive design techniques and frameworks like Bootstrap.

  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and web accessibility standards (WCAG and Section 508).

  • Experience with customization and integration of third-party integrations.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Project planning and management skills: including building project timelines in partnership with the Senior Technical Project Manager and creative lead; managing timing expectations with clients and internal team; modifying and communicating efficiently.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and timeliness of replies both internally and with clients.

  • Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality results.

  • Passionate about learning and trying new web technologies and following best practices for accessibility and ADA/508 compliance on the web.

  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and maintain a positive attitude under pressure.


Preferred Skills



  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), front-end build tools (e.g., Gulp, Sass), and popular WordPress page builders (e.g., Elementor, WPBakery).

  • Familiarity with front-end build tools and preprocessors (e.g., Gulp, Sass).

  • Understanding of server configurations and hosting environments (e.g., WP Engine, DreamHost).

  • Experience working with third-party APIs and integrating external services.

  • Knowledge of data security.

  • Knowledge of digital marketing and web analytics tools.

  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles.


Compensation and Bench Status


The salary range for this position is $47 - $55 per hour. This is a "bench" position, meaning it is a non-benefitted, part-time, hourly role.  Hours are not guaranteed and would fluctuate based on the needs of projects.  Part-time and bench employees are eligible to accrue one hour of PTO/Sick Time for every 40 hours worked.
