Overview
The WordPress Developer (Backend) plays a critical role in the development and maintenance of WordPress-based websites and applications. This position focuses on optimizing backend functionalities, enhancing performance, and ensuring seamless interaction between the front end and server-side technology. As a key player in a team of developers, the backend developer is responsible for coding and troubleshooting server-side scripts, implementing various WordPress plugins, and managing databases. A strong understanding of PHP, MySQL, and RESTful APIs will be essential for the development of custom solutions that improve user experience and increase the scalability of the WordPress platform. This role not only requires technical expertise but also effective communication skills for collaboration with frontend developers and designers. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain server-side applications and custom plugins for WordPress.
- Optimize existing website functionality and performance for better user experience.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
- Manage and maintain WordPress installations, including core updates and security settings.
- Design and implement database systems as required by applications.
- Debugging and troubleshooting issues related to backend performance and database queries.
- Create and maintain APIs to facilitate data exchange between the front end and backend.
- Implement version control and maintain a clean repository of backend code.
- Work closely with designers to ensure that the backend functionalities align with design specifications.
- Conduct website performance tests and gather user feedback to refine features.
- Research and test new plugins and updates to enhance functionality.
- Document backend processes and application architecture.
- Respond to and resolve technical issues reported by users or team members.
- Ensure compliance with web standards and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a WordPress Developer with a focus on backend development.
- Strong proficiency in PHP and MySQL.
- Experience with WordPress CMS and its internal functions.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and JSON.
- Experience in using version control systems, particularly Git.
- Strong debugging skills and experience with testing frameworks.
- Ability to write clear and maintainable code.
- Understanding of security best practices pertaining to web applications.
- Experience with website performance optimization tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Good communication skills for collaboration and teamwork.
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities and business requirements.
- Understanding of web hosting and server management is a plus.
